The Brachial Plexus Unit includes:-


Ward 28

This ward is a 32 bedded adult’s plastic and reconstructive surgery ward. Dependent on the extent of the patient’s injuries they will be admitted to the ward the day before primary nerve surgery and on average will stay a few days after their operation.

Out-patient plastic surgery dressing clinic
In this clinic patient’s wounds and dressings will be assessed by nursing staff and if necessary medical staff as an out-patient four weeks after surgery.

Consultant led out patient clinics or specialist practitioner brachial plexus clinics
In these clinics adults will be regularly re-assessed by a multi-disciplinary team of staff. This team includes medical staff (Consultants and Registrars), Nursing staff, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. Assessments in these clinics will aim to establish the level of recovery and whether therapy or surgery (this may include microvascular free muscle transfers, tendon transfers, osteotomies and arthrodesis) aimed at improving function is indicated

This unit also has access to Imaging services, Pain services and Neurophysiology services.
