About Us

The Leeds Cancer Service is one of the largest in Europe, offering a full range of specialist cancer services to over 800 new patients each month.

The Cancer Service serves the population of West Yorkshire, the majority of North Yorkshire and, because we lead the way with many procedures, also treats patients nationally and internationally.

Until December 2007, non-surgical cancer care at Leeds was delivered at Cookridge Hospital, St James's University Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary. These services will now be centralised in the £220 million Institute of Oncology at St James’s University Hospital.

Not only does St James’s Institute of Oncology house one of the UK’s largest radiotherapy units but it will also deliver chemotherapy, provide clinical haematology expertise and palliative care. A small number of specialist surgical services will also be included in the Institute of Oncology.

Whilst we transfer departments into the new building, we are reconstructing our website to bring you a full range of information about the treatment and care that we provide.

In the meantime, a Patient Guide to the St James’s Institute of Oncology is available by clicking on the link. Alternatively, please click here for further information.

If you wish to speak to a department or member of staff in the St James’s Institute of Oncology during the transfer of services, please contact our Main Switchboard on (0113) 2433144.
