    Treatments

    There are a number of different treatment options available in the care of colorectal cancer. Which type of treatment is most appropriate will largely depend on the stage of the disease. The decision regarding what treatment to have will be your choice, this will be guided by the advice of the

    Before any final decision is made regarding which treatment to have your case will be discussed at a multi-disciplinary team meeting. At this meeting all specialists involved in the treatment of bowel cancer will discuss how best to manage your cancer. There will be present a number of surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists, oncologists, pathologists and nurses involved in the care of colorectal cancer.

    Following the discussion of your case at the multi-disciplinary team meeting you will be informed of what was discussed at the meeting by the consultant in charge of your care. They will also discuss with you what the most appropriate treatment or treatments for you to have will be. They will outline the benefits and risks of each treatment that is being recommended. This is so that you will have all the necessary information about the treatments on which to make an informed decision about how to proceed.

    At all points you will be the person who the ultimate decision of which treatment to have rests with.
