School trips
| There is no reason why you can't enjoy the same trips away as the rest of your friends. As long as you can manage your own diabetes well, you should be more than able to cope. You will need to talk about the activities you will be doing and the meals provided with the staff before you go. You should also make sure that the staff who are taking you are aware that you have got diabetes and what sort of insulin you are taking. If you are worried about anything you can talk to your Diabetes Team and our Dietitian. Going away from home with school means that you will be looking after yourself. So you, your parents and your school will all need to be confident that you can handle your diabetes. This may sound like a tall order, but thousands of people with diabetes go away with their school every year and can and do cope. If your school has objections, speak to your Diabetes Team and see if they can put the schools mind at ease. |
