Low blood sugars (hypo) with confusion or fits

  • Most often seen early in the morning
  • If possible confirm low blood glucose
  • If able to tolerate give sugary drink
  • If unable as unconscious or fitting, give Glucagon
  • If no Glucagon available try carefully rubbing Hypostop or sugar into the lining of the mouth
  • If fitting place on there side (recovery position) and call ambulance
  • Once recovered give long acting carbohydrate (sandwich, fruit) and monitor sugars for the day
  • Ask why this occurred and discuss with Diabetes Team whether your insulin regimen needs changing
