Remember that trial and error is the key to success. It is useful to do some extra blood glucose tests before and after exercise initially to see whether you need more or less carbohydrate next time. Taking too much carbohydrate before and after exercise that is not used will affect your diabetes control, in the long term. Having diabetes should not stop you from doing new and exciting activities. If you are beginning a serious sporting activity that requires a lot of training, changes to your insulin may be necessary. For extra help and guidance discuss this with your diabetes team.
