Twice Daily Injections

This is still a common insulin regimen used across the UK, especially in young children.   Premixed insulin is usually given with a pen injection device. (click here to learn more about premixed insulin).  Injections are given before breakfast and at tea time.  The morning dose is generally higher than the evening dose.

Advantages

  • Only involves 2 injections a day
  • Used often in very small children needing very little insulin

Disadvantages

  • Difficult to get good control particularly in older children
  • Makes it difficult to adjust insulin and correct for high or low blood glucose levels.
