I was appointed as a Consultant in 1989 at Leeds General Infirmary.  I trained mainly in London at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Oxford at the John Radcliffe before moving to Leeds.  I have a specific interest in Diabetes and established the Paediatric Diabetes Service at Leeds General Infirmary when I started here.  Together with Dr Campbell at St James's helped establish a cross city service following the formation of a single Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust.

I began my career in 1980 and have a background in sick children's nursing and health visiting.  I have worked as a Diabetes Nurse Specialist since 1992 and solely with children from 1996 as the service developed.  I manage and lead the Children's Diabetes Nursing Team.  Having studied the use of therapeutic hypnosis, I have a particular interest in using deep relaxation techniques to help children cope with various aspects of managing their condition.  I have recently qualified as an extended/ supplementary nurse prescriber.

I joined the Children's Diabetes Nursing Team in 1996 after many years working with children with chronic illness and their families.  Since then I have also worked as a Project Manager to develop Childhood Diabetes Care Pathways for use by GPs and Practice Nurses, and am currently working in a regional post as a Genetic Diabetes Nurse, advising on rare genetic types of diabetes.  I have a particular interest in older children/young people with diabetes and I have recently qualified as a non-medical prescriber.

I trained as a Children's Nurse in Leeds and began working life at the Leeds General Infirmary in 1995.  Most of my experience involves caring for children with acute and chronic medical conditions, but I also enjoyed my time spent working on the Children's Surgical & Neurology Wards.  I joined the Children's Diabetes Team in January 2004 and am enjoying working with you all.

I qualified as a Dietitian in 1990 from Leeds Polytechnic (now Leeds Met) and have worked as a Children's Dietitian since 1991.  I have had experience with several Children's Diabetes Teams in Sheffield, Manchester and Brighton before arriving back in Leeds in 2002.  I was appointed full time as a Children's Diabetes Dietitian for both hospitals in Leeds in 2003.
