Bradyarrhythmia

Definition

Persistently slow heart rate <100 beats per minute
Incidence Dependent on cause (see below). Non structural overall incidence Congenital Heart Block (CHB) 1:20000
Diagnosis Ultrasound & CTG
Gestation at diagnosis 12-40 weeks
Known cause, chromosomal or genetic association Strong association with maternal Rho positive lupus.  Also strong association with cardiac malformation (50%)
Further investigations Fetal Echocardiogram
Differential Diaganosis

Transient sinus bradycardia (physiological)

Prognosis Dependant on gestations and cause. If early trimester poor. If associated with structural problem very poor. If associated with anti-Ro/LA antibodies good (~90%)
Recurrance risk If the result of anti-Ro/LA 8-16%, if structural defect low
