Cyst within the choroid plexus of the brain |
| Incidence | 1:100 second trimester fetuses |
| Diagnosis | Ultrasound appearances of unilateral or bilateral cysts (>2mm) within the choroid plexus |
| Gestation at diagnosis | Visible 14 weeks onwards |
| Known chromosomal or genetic association | Yes, Trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome) |
| Further investigations | Karyotype only if associated with other markers of chromosomal abnormality or advanced maternal age |
| Differential Diaganosis | Ventriculomegaly |
| Prognosis | Excellent if not associated with Trisomy 18 |
| Recurrance risk | Low |
