Choroid Plexus Cyst

Definition

Cyst within the choroid plexus of the brain
Incidence 1:100 second trimester fetuses
Diagnosis Ultrasound appearances of unilateral or bilateral cysts (>2mm) within the choroid plexus
Gestation at diagnosis Visible 14 weeks onwards
Known chromosomal or genetic association Yes, Trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome)
Further investigations Karyotype only if associated with other markers of chromosomal abnormality or advanced maternal age
Differential Diaganosis Ventriculomegaly
Prognosis Excellent if not associated with Trisomy 18
Recurrance risk Low
