Duodenal Atresia
Definition |
Partial or complete obstruction of the duodenum (upper gut) |
| Incidence | 0.1:1000 |
| Diagnosis | Ultrasound with classic "Double-Bubble" appearance with/without polyhydramnios |
| Gestation at diagnosis | Generally only after 20 weeks or in the early third trimester |
| Known chromosomal or genetic association | Yes, Chromosomal 30% (Trisomy 21). 50% of the remaining will have other defects (VSD or Tetrallogy of Fallot) |

| Differential Diaganosis | Mesenteric Cyst Jejunal Atresia Choledochal cyst |
| Prognosis | Excellent if isolated (95% following surgery) |
