Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

 

Definition

Primary structural disorder of the cardiacmuscle
Incidence 0.2/1000 livebirths
Diagnosis Prenatal gene testing available for a limited number
Gestation at diagnosis 11 weeks onwards if gene known. Late third trimester otherwise.
Known chromosomal or genetic association Can be inherited in an autosomal dominant or recessive fashion. Also associated with genetic conditions such as Noonan's and Neurofibromatosis. Sometimes found with poorly controlled maternal diabetes.

Prognosis Variable depending on cause and gestation at onset
