MRI

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is increasingly being used to image fetuses in the womb.  In Leeds we both perform MRIs and refer patients to The Hallamshire in Sheffield for these specialised scans.  Where a patient goes depends on the fetal condition involved.  MRI is particularly useful for images of the fetal brain and spine where it can provide more information than ultrasound alone (see images below).  It can also be useful when imaging some chest abnormalities.
