Description

The NVQ Centre offers both NVQ level 3 in health and Level 3 in health and social care. The Health award is clinically focused with various branches for people working with children, maternity & paediatrics, various theatre based awards, allied health professions support, decontamination and clinical / general healthcare skills. The Clinical Healthcare Skills award relates directly to clinical activities in the plan of care for hospital/clinic/community based patients who require various actions such as blood taking, clinical observations, catheterization, woundcare and others. The General Healthcare Skills award is more suited to those support workers who have a more general role but encompasses some clinical activities with patients, eg. out patient clinics, specialist / dual roles which involve undertaking a limited range of clinical activities with patients or clients. The other health awards are for specific groups of support workers undertaking roles in specialist areas eg, theatres, physio and maternity areas. NVQs are work based qualifications that are achieved in the workplace and are attained by the submission of a portfolio of evidence that is derived primarily from assessment of the individual carrying out a range of real work activities and substantiated by further evidence from other sources. This approach is based on competency frameworks in that they incorporate a measure of an individuals' performance recognising excellence in work.
