Glaucoma services
The Optometry department provides a stand alone Specialist optometrist run glaucoma monitoring clinic as well as support for the Ophthalmology glaucoma clinics within the Trust, with Specialist optometrists working alongside Consultant teams to assess and manage glaucoma patients.
At present the Optometry department provides a stand alone optometrist run glaucoma monitoring clinic on Wednesdays at Wharfedale General Hospital as well as an optometric glaucoma referral refinement clinic on Thursday mornings at Rutland Lodge Community Eye Centre.
Glaucoma clinics supported by the Glaucoma Specialist optometrists are running at present on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons alongside the Ophthalmological glaucoma clinic at the main eye clinic based at St. James's University Hospital.
Patients for the stand alone optometrist run glaucoma are selected stable galucoma or ocular hypertensive patients usually on a six month or greater clinic review period.
