Optometry: Research
The Optometry department in conjuction with the Ophthalmology department is involved in various research projects including:
- Research into the use of tinted spectacles for retinal dystrophies
Research into drug therapy for Exudative (wet) Macular degeneration with:
- Anecortave Acetate - members of the Optometry team are Phase 3 Trial Certified Investigators of Visual Acuity and Contrast Sensitivity measurement
- Macugen - members of the Optometry team are Investigators of Visual Acuity and Contrast Sensitivity measurement
- Lucentis - members of the Optometry team are certified Investigators of Visual Acuity measurement
Research into drug therapy for Cystoid Macular Degeneration with:
- Posurdex - members of the Optometry team are EMMES certified Investigators of Visual Acuity and Contrast Sensitivity
Research into refractive and corneal surgery in conjunction with the St. James's LaserVision centre based at St. James's University Hospital.
