Teaching and Training
The Optometry department provides teaching and training to:
- Undergraduate Optometry students
- Undergraduate Orthoptic students
- Undergraduate Nursing students
- Undergraduate medical students
- Pre-registration optometrists
- Qualified optometrists
- Ophthalmologists
The Head of Optometry, Principal Optometrist as well as other members of the Optometry team are registered pre-registration supervisors with the College of Optometrists and the department employs a pre-registration optometrist.
The department:
- Is a registered CET provider with the General Optical Council
- Provides supervision and training for junior and pre-registration optometrists .
- Organises refresher courses and specialist courses for optometrists and ophthalmologists.
- Liaise with Aston and Bradford University Optometry Department in the teaching of undergraduate optometry students.
- Is responsible for the professional training and continuing professional development of optometry staff.
