Welcome to Orthoptics

The Orthoptic Department is part of the Ophthalmology team. It provides Orthoptics and visual fields services for the Ophthalmology team and other specialist services at St. James University Hospital (SJUH) and Wharfedale General Hospital (WGH). We also provide Paediatric Community Orthoptics for NHS Leeds Community Healthcare.

Orthoptists specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and management of ocular motility and binocular vision disorders in all age groups and in paediatric vision assessment.

Orthoptists can work as autonomous practitioners providing care and treatment without reference to medical staff.

All Orthoptists hold a diploma or a degree in Orthoptics and are registered with the Health Professions Council.
