LTHT TOPS NEW LEAGUE TABLE FOR 

  MEDICAL RESEARCH 

   Leeds has toppped a new league table showing the extent of medical 

   research being carried out to improve treatment in NHS hospitals

   throughout England

   Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust not only carried out the most

   studies, 322, but also recruited the fourth highest number of patients,

   11,660, on to medical trials of all the NHS Trusts in England for 2010/11

  About us

The Research & Development Department is a central corporate function within the Trust. The Department, in collaboration with the University of Leeds, supports the development of high quality R&D within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Reporting to the Medical Director, the Department comprises of an R&D Director who works alongside an Associate Director and is supported by the R&D Team.

The R&D Department takes an organisation-level lead in ensuring that research is conducted and managed to high scientific, ethical and financial standards, prepares all submissions to the West Yorkshire Comprehensive Local Network (WYCLRN) and Department of Health (DH) to secure and account for R&D monies received and contributes to developing an active research organisation. In order to meet these responsibilities, the Department works closely with the Directorates which acts as an autonomous business unit.

As part of our commitment to delivering the best possible patient care, we wish to encourage our staff to develop and exploit IP in conjunction with the Trust and the Regional NHS IP Hub (Medipex)
