R&D Approval - Peer Review
Peer Review Guidance
Overview of Peer Review Requirements:
- All research projects involving patients, their organs, tissue or data must undergo appropriate independent expert review.
- It is a key indicator of quality assurance in research and is essential in ensuring relevant and scientifically sound research is undertaken within the Trust.
- Peer review should occur before full R&D Approval and Research Ethics Committee approval is sought
- Projects that are externally funded by high quality, non-commercial grant giving bodies are regarded as appropriately peer reviewed.
- Peer review must be arranged for locally organised or pilot projects without external funding and projects funded by external organisations that do not carry out their own peer review.
- The level of peer review required is dependent on whether the project is classed as high or low risk.
- Copies of the peer review must be submitted to the R&D Department for all Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products that are sponsored by the Trust or the University of Leeds and are not externally funded or are investigator initiated studies with commercial support.
