Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

This Programme focuses on older people (60 years and over) and patients with stroke. Collaboration in Leeds is with consultants in elderly care medicine.

RAE The Epidemiology, Identification and Management of Diabetes in Pregnancy

Contributing Site

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

This programme, as with previous years, is primarily an Obstetrics and Gynaecology initiative. The main objective of the programme is the investigation of recommended research areas arising from the National Service Framework for Diabetes. The programme has been extended to include cardiovascular disease leading to hypertension as this is a common complication associated with diabetes and confounds a large proportion of diabetic pregnancies, resulting in increased mortality and morbidity in mother and infant.

RBS Psychosocial Processes in Life Threatening and Chronic Childhood Illnesses

Contributing Site

Royal Liverpool Children's NHS Trust

This programme studies the impact of serious paediatric conditions on the development of the child and the role of biological and psychosocial processes as sources of risk or resilience. A key feature of the programme is long term follow up through childhood and into adult life in order to understand the long term impact of these conditions and underlying processes.

YReN - Yorkshire Primary Care Research Network

The aim of this programme is to facilitate the development of the evidence base in primary care dentistry by building capacity amongst the primary dental care team. The resulting research evidence will inform future policy, practice and commissioning. The programme brings together research expertise from both the dental primary and secondary care sectors.

RGDMH Psychosocial Aspects of Physical Health

Recruitment site

Leeds Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust

This programme covers work on hospital attendance due to self-harm, old age liaison psychiatry and the clinical epidemiology of hysteria. The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) provides the acute hospital setting for this area of work.

RGDMH Therapist & Health Effects on Outcome - THEO (Addiction)

Contributing site

Leeds Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust

This programme is at an early stage of development and 2004/05 will see further clarification of LTHT's input to research in the area of addiction. Currently, work is being undertaken by research staff in the Microbiology Department to examine whether a new strain of streptococcus pyogenes (M80) is the causal agent in the increased number of deep vein thromboses presenting in those with a history of intravenous drug use.
