The Equipment Solution
The equipment solution for the building incorporates items for treatment and diagnosis that will be purchased, maintained and replaced by the Trust along with significant items of major equipment that will be purchased, maintained and replaced by the private sector (Managed Equipment Service) as part of the deal signed at financial close. The major equipment has been included in the first 15 years of the PFI deal and over this period of time will be maintained at accepted service levels and standards and replaced on a pre agreed frequency. Since September 2006 Elekta has been installing Linear Accelerators (Linacs) in the New Oncology Wing. At this moment in time there are 8 Linacs installed with 2 more to transfer from Cookridge into the building in January 2008. The Radiotherapy Medical Physics & Engineering department has been fully involved in this process from delivery to final commissioning and have ensured that the whole process ran smoothly. At the end of June 2007 Siemens installed a CT Simulator and during August 2007 a Philips Gamma Camera and a Fluoroscopy unit were delivered into the NOW for installation. Again Medical Physics will be involved in the commissioning of this equipment. The majority of the new equipment will be installed between September - October 2007 with the bulk of the transferred items moving from Cookridge Hospital in the New Year 2008. |
