Supplies Department achieve first IIP Award in Trust |
Following our successful audit by external consultants 'Invest in People' we have now achieved the Investors in People Award.
The department has been working toward the standard over the last nine months. The standard comprises 12 standards that identify the framework within which the 'organisation' works with its staff. The department received particularly encouraging comments from staff through the confidential interview process.
While comments were not attributed to individuals the general message was that the department had undergone significant change and this was readily recognised by many staff. Long serving members of staff were particularly pleased to note that their training needs were identified and that there had been the opportunity to progress their skills and development within the organisation.
The department like the rest of the Trust is adopting the Performance Development process that has been used for managers for some time.
Results of the training investment for the department include an annual training day, bespoke on-site arrangements for staff to attend the CIPS certificate program as well as sponsorship of the CIPS diploma through local colleges.
Local training courses include the ECDL, PASA Taskforce trainer events and the use of the Trusts own Training and Development Department.
"I am delighted that the staff of the department have achieved the award. I am particularly pleased with the comments of the assessor that confirm that we are traveling in the right direction and that there has been an appreciation of the efforts that have been focused on developing our staff. I would like to congratulate and thank all the staff on their achievement and hope that we continue to make the excellent progress that we have achieved in the last three years".
Training Update
IIP has greatly increased the awareness within the department for training. Training not only provides the staff with extra skills that can benefit themselves and the department directly, the department benefits indirectly from increased staff motivation and loyalty whilst staff feel that there is more room for progression.
At present, three staff training programmes are currently underway, European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), PASA Supply Management and CIPS qualification at both certificate and diploma level.
PASA
PASA Supply Management attempts to provide all staff involved in purchasing with a core set of competencies in negotiation, contract law and local purchasing. All members of staff within the department are required to attend the first available course.
CIPS
The department has on-site training arrangements for the CIPS certificate and sponsorship for the diploma. Details can be found at:
