Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust choose @UK PLC
| Introduction | GHX | @UK | Version One |
Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust takes
another step towards 100% purchasing online and receiving invoices electronically.
@UK PLC is already providing an e-nablement service to suppliers of
a number of LA's throughout many parts of the UK , including suppliers
to schools, central council departments etc - also making a major contribution
to Local Economic Development within the areas concerned.
Press Release 8th August 2006:
Leeds Teaching Hospital (the largest such establishment in Europe) is now live for the transmission of orders to suppliers and for receipt of the equivalent e-invoices using the @UK network.
Russel Danby placed the first purchase order through the @UK system on the 8th August 2006. The process involved receiving the order from Sterile Services through the Trust's electronic requisitioning system. The supplier, in this case Westfield Medical is flagged within the Leeds system as an @UK supplier. Russel picked this requisition up on the Trust's Oracle Purchasing System and the system automatically directs the user to the Westfield Medical @UK web site which contains all the Leeds contract prices. The next stage involved selecting items from a list and suing the shopping basket to check out the items, similar to Tesco on-line or any other on-line shopping system. The items are then added to the order in Oracle Purchasing and sent via @UK to Westfield Medical. |

The order was delivered to schedule on the 14th August and receipted into Oracle Purchasing. The next stage involved electronically matching the order, receipt and invoice in a 3-way match. The payment was made through the Trust's BACS system to complete the fully electronic circle. This order represented the first live transmission of an order for @UK within the health care sector. At the same time the Coding International
arm of @UK is involved in a major coding exercise for several London healthcare
trusts. A new advertising campaign to health breaks on September 7th in Health
Service Journal, the leading weekly magazine read by over 80,000 health services
managers and senior staff. The advertisement is another in @UK’s successful
“real” campaign. It majors on the genuine benefits that e-procurement
using the @UK approach can bring; easy and effective recruitment of all sizes
and types of supplier, rapid accurate transmission of orders and especially
the reductions in administration cost from automatic 3-way matching of invoices.
@UK National Operations Manager for Healthcare, Andy Bishop said “We are
generating real momentum now in healthcare. It is important to stress that @UK
can work with any of the existing providers of e-commerce solutions such as
GHX and UK Procure, but can also offer a complete purchase to pay solution.
There is now a wide variety of options available to create a successful e-procurement
implementation for any size of establishment.
From a position where the company was well-known in local authorities but unheard
of in health, @UK is now fast becoming seen as the logical provider of links
to all the suppliers of all healthcare bodies. In fact the division between
the council and health markets is somewhat artificial. Many companies supply
both sectors. The huge advantage to all suppliers is that one annual membership
to the @UK network gains them the ability to access all our buying clients electronically,
whatever sector they are in”.

The @UK pilot is intended to complement the existing TecSol GHX e-commerce system which has been in use at Leeds since February 2002. We see TecSol GHX as providing the e-commerce solution for medical and pharmacutical suppliers while the @UK focus will mainly be on non-medical suppliers of goods and services although there may be some overlap.
Press Release 13th February 2006:
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS
Trust is the largest Trust in the UK. It provides acute services for the population
of Leeds and is a regional centre for the treatment of diseases such as cancer
and heart disease. It employs approximately 15,000 staff across eight sites
and treats 125,000 in-patients, 65,000 day cases and 700,000 out-patients each
year. It has 3,000 beds and an annual budget of £640 million. The Trust's
Supplies Department has been successfully trading electronically for over four
years and has won numerous awards for its innovative procurement systems. The
Trust is now looking to widen its e-Commerce platform to target its non-medical
suppliers.
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has today agreed to be connected to the
trading platform of @UK. Working together, @UK PLC and the Trust will develop
integration to allow users of its Oracle purchasing system to access the suppliers
and content held on the @UK PLC exchange.
This link will be implemented to enable the Trust's users to access a full range
of goods and services from suppliers on-line. The @UK PLC technology is unique
in allowing even very small suppliers to get on-line with a fully functioning
trading website; thereby also supporting wider objectives such as Local Economic
Development involvement with small and medium enterprises. Chris Slater, Head
of Supplies at the Trust says of his choice of the eProcurement solution for
Leeds: 'Our major concern is to widen our supplier community to be able to trade
electronically with the Trust. The @UK solution will enable more market penetration
and provide a cost effective solution particularly for many non-medical suppliers.
This is in line with our strategy of rolling out e-Commerce and trading with
the local business community in line with the ‘Making Leeds Better' programme.
This agreement with Leeds marks a major step forward in @UK's recently announced
move into Healthcare. When connected, the Leeds model will be @UK's Oracle reference
site and will be open for other Trusts to view and evaluate.
