Thackray Medical Museum
THackray Medical Museum, Leeds

The award winning Thackray Medical Museum allows people the opportunity to experience the evolution of medicine. See how Britain survived without modern medicine when you travel back in time to 1842 and visit some the most gruesome slums of Victorian Leeds. Join Hannah Dyson as she undergoes a leg amputation – but beware…this is not for the faint hearted. Especially when this procedure takes place in an 1840’s operating theatre! Try on an ‘empathy’ belly and see what it feels like to carry a baby. Discover what it was like to deliver a baby in 1890 and compare it to how babies are delivered today. With so many lectures and events taking place throughout the year and so many things to see and do, there will definitely be something for everybody at the Thackray Medical Museum

The Henry Moore Institute
The Henry Moore Institute, Leeds
The Institute, situated in the heart of Leeds city centre, exhibits 3 – 4 temporary exhibitions each year in its 4 gallery spaces, ranging from historical to cutting edge, modern art. The institute exhibits local artists as well as those from abroad and showcases work never seen by the public before.
Located on the first floor of the institute is a widespread sculpture reference library, archive, slide and video library. It contains over 14000 items and is open to anybody and everybody.

The Royal Armouries Museum
The Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds
Housing 3,000 years of history, the Royal Armouries is a must see attraction. With live daily interpretations ranging from the Roman Legionary to the latest news from Iraq and falconry displays at the weekend, there is always something for you to see no matter which day you go. The museum not only houses exhibits of the past but also of the here and now. Take a trip through the ages and see how the world became as it is today with the Royal Armouries.

Harewood House
Harewood House

Designed by John Carr in 1759, Harewood House has been the Lascelles family house ever since. A variety of paintings are displayed including Turner, Italian Renaissance, 18th Century portraits and 20th Century masterpieces. The Earl of Harewood is the son of the late Princess Mary, daughter of King George V and cousin to HM Queen Elizabeth II. The popular Bird Garden  is a must see at Harewood House as it has one of the most widespread collections of rare and exotic birds from Africa, Australia and America.

Flexible Working

The Trust currently has a number of policies and approaches to help staff combine work and home commitments through working in a flexible way, examples of alternatives which are considered include flexi-time, job share, annual hours working and variable working hours.

Staff Benefits

Discount schemes and preferential arrangements for staff exist with a variety of companies. A wide range of leisure activities are also available for staff, including gym facilities at Leeds General Infirmary, St James's and Seacroft sites.

The Occupational health Services offers health checks and advice, immunisation programmes and information on issues relating to health promotion.

Staff have the option to make regular contributions to a Healthcare benefits scheme, The Leeds Hospital Fund, which entitles members to a range of healthcare discounts.

Childcare Facilities

Staff nurseries are based on Leeds General Infirmary, St James's and Seacroft sites, catering for children from six months of age to school age, Places, for which there is often a waiting list, are offered on a full time and part time basis. Playschemes operate during school holiday periods for children aged four to 16 years. Banking facilities are available on the main sites, There are a number of shops located throughout the Trust, Staff dining facilities are available on each site.

Car Parking

Car parking is available, but very limited on some sites, The Trust operates a car park permit system and parking charges apply. A Metro Card Scheme is also in operation which offers staff discounted rates on regular use of local public transport. The Trust promotes further incentive schemes to encourage staff to reduce dependence on the use of private vehicles for example cycle storage facilities are available on most hospital sites.

Relocation Expenses and Support Policy

The Trust operates a relocation expenses support policy, which is applicable under certain circumstances.

Travel to the City of Leeds

Leeds is a major commercial city with excellent road, rail and air links. The M1, A1 and M62 are routed directly into the city centre and commuting by rail from surrounding villages and towns such as Ilkley and Harrogate is feasible, Leeds is within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors, the Lake District, Peak District and Northumberland, House prices are reasonable and good public and private schools are available, Leeds also has a great deal to offer culturally, Home of the Royal Armouries Museum, Tetley's Brewery Wharfe, Thackray Medical museum and Temple Newsham House, the city also offers a city museum and art gallery. Opera North is based at the Grand Theatre and the West Yorkshire Playhouse and Leeds Civic Theatre are all located in the city centre, The city also boasts a number of excellent sports centres and facilities.
